The N&W's Y-class 2-8-8-2 compound articulated steam locomotives were, in their later types, arguably the best compound locomotives ever built. This book explores the class thoroughly. It is a complete revision of the 64-page softbound book released in 1993 as N&W's Magnificent Mallets. Completely re-worked and DOUBLED in size, it has more than 70% new or changed photos. Additional text has been added on the Y-Class Mallets, and an appendix chapter has been added to illustrate some of the N&W's other classes of articulated steam. Additional side-bar text is presented, as well as mechanical drawings. Photos are reproduced in larger format, which will prove very useful for modelers. The original book went through three printings, and we feel sure that this complete revision and large expansion will do as well.
