Book Condition: NEW CONDITION DVD
Publisher: Railroad Video Productions
Seller ID: RVP7-26D
This tape features the GG-1 in her last years of service for Amtrak, Conrail and New Jersey Transit. See the Pennsy's GG-1 no. 4877 (restored by NJ Transit) in action during her last days of regular service. We open at South Amboy, N.J. at 6:30 a.m. The 4877 is shown in detail lined up in the MU yard with three other GG-1's behind her. Also seen is eastbound N.J. Transit train no.5306 (an F40PH push-pull) with seven cars passing by, an ex-Amtrak E-60 electric arriving on train no.3303, two N.J.T. diesels off train no. 3312 head for the pit as a GG-1 departs with a train for New York City. Then we get aboard a GG-1, observing close up details of the interior and soon we are on our way over the former New York & Long Branch Railroad, over the Raritan Draw Bridge, pass Wood tower and onto the former Pennsylvania Railroad Perth Amboy and Woodbridge Branch to Rahway (Union Tower) where we are switched to the former P.R.R. main line. Passing Elmora, Lane and Hunter towers (with a stop at Elizabeth station) before arriving at Newark Station. After leaving Newark we pass over the Dock lift bridge (which spans the Passaic River) pass Hudson tower, then over the Portal Draw bridge (spanning the Hackensack River), and through the Jersey Meadowlands before entering the Hudson River Tunnels at Bergen, N.J. then emerging at A tower, Pennsylvania Station, New York City. We then travel to Amtrak's Wilmington Shops ( Wilmington, Delaware ) to observe many retired GG-1 engines in detail. Jim Abbott shot the original film between 1979 and 1981. Many of the GG-1 engines are seen on their last revenue runs. You will see the G in many paint schemes and from every angle including overhead and Run Over shots. The sound track was carefully matched and edited by Railroad Video Productions from their extensive sound library. NOTE: Because the GG-I was retired before RR Video Productions acquired Broadcast quality video cameras and recorders, the footage in this program was shot with a consumer type VHS camcorder which does not equal the quality of Broadcast Quality equipment. Because of its historical significance and popular demand RR Video Productions will continue to offer Pennsylvania Railroad GG-I along with their other Broadcast Quality videos. Railroad Video Productions, 60 minutes, color, sound. List price: $29.95.
